Quinta Ausas, Interpretacion 2021

Ausas Interpretacion 2018 has spent over 16 months in French 225 and 500 liter barrels, fermentation took place in steel and concrete tanks, bottling in June 2020. The Tempranillo grapes all come from old vineyards from different locations in the Ribera del Duero, such as La Aguilera, Burgos and Soria, with the aim of bringing an authentic Ribera del Duero to the bottle with finesse. The 2018 is a racy Ribera with a lot of power and high concentration, aromatically more Flor de Pingus than Aalto, currently a grab bag of aromas (berries as well as spice and herbal notes) with impeccable balance and perfectly integrated wood. Javier Ausàs started at Vega Sicilia in 1988, after leaving Mariano Garcia he was chief oenologist for the entire group from 1998-2015, responsible for all the wines from Pintia to Alion to Valbuena and Unico. In 2015, the Catalan left Ausàs Vega Sicilia and has since worked as a freelance consultant for the wineries Pago de Carraovejas (Ribera del Duero), Marqués de Vargas (Rioja) and Anima Negra (Mallorca). At the same time he started his own small bodega, Ausàs Bodega y Viñedos in Quintanilla de Onésimo, DO Ribera del Duero. Due to his good connections from the Vega Sicilia period, it was not difficult for him to get first-class vineyards for his project. The vineyards are located in Psequera, Nava de Roa, Gumiel de Mercado, Roa and Moradillo de Roa, the age of the vines is 03-95 years, the highest vineyards are at 950 meters.
