A wonderfully elegant and fragrant Pinot Noir that captures the finesse of Sancerre's cooler climate. Delicate aromas of red cherry and wild berries mingle with subtle floral notes and a gentle suggestion of smoky spice. The palate is beautifully poised with juicy red fruit, fine tannins and refreshing acidity bringing energy and definition. Light on its feet yet full of character with a silky texture and a long, graceful finish.

A lovely alternative to red Burgundy, particularly alongside roast poultry, duck or wild mushroom dishes.

The 5 hectares of Sancerre Rouge are grown in a local spot known as “Les Pichons” below the Monts Damnés hill. The limestone-clay soils are deep enough to enable the vines to root well and draw out all the richness of the terroir.

The predominantly destemmed grapes undergo a short, cold pre-fermentation maceration before fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open top vats, using gentle extraction to preserve the delicacy of the fruit. Half the wine is matured in traditional 228 litre Burgundy barrels, with just 7% new oak, while the remainder ages in larger oak vats. The wine is subsequently blended and bottled without fining or filtration.

The Prieur family has been growing vines in Sancerre for eleven generations, with vineyards surrounding the celebrated village of Verdigny. Today, Luc Prieur contines the family's tradition, bringing a distinctly Burgundian philosophy shaped by his studies in Beaune. Individual vineyard parcels are vinified with minimal intervention, allowing each wine to express the character of its origins. Organically farmed vineyards, hand harvestings and meticulous attention to detail are central to the estate's approach, producing wines of exceptional purity, finesse an individuality.
