Made from the oldest vines on the estate averaging 75 years this is classy Fleurie in anyone's book. Beautiful balance and fruit purity with a depth of flavour rarely seen from the Gamay grape. Best with pork, salmon or hard cheese that aren't too strong.

Their Fleurie is made from a parcel of old Gamay bush-trained vines on classic pink granite soils. They face south and west on steep slopes, capturing the most of the sunshine, helping to give their wines extra colour, depth and concentration. The grapes are whole bunch fermented with 10-15 days of maceration. There is remontage twice a day but no pigeage. At the end of the elevage there is a light filtration and very little sulphur is then added.
Domaine de la Madone is one of our favorites few estates craft such character-rich, expressive Gamay outside of Beaujolais band of cru villages. But that is Madones secret of their vineyards should be rated Beaujolais cru (or grand cru, if we had any say in it). This is certainly one of the finest values for the quality anywhere in the world.
