The Good Wine Shop is very proud to present this South African red blend that has been produced for us - and for you - by the preeminent vintner Pieter Walser.
An old school South African Bordeaux blend, in that it is made of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a big component of Cinsault and some Grenache. Winemaker Pieter Walser describes it somewhere between a Bordeaux and a Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
A subtle floral note is probably the first thing to reach your nose, followed by wafts of fresh red cherries, strawberry and raspberry, to end with a little swirl of smoke, autumn leaves and some sweet and savoury spice. The Cinsault brightens up the Bordeaux varieties. Fine tannins and soft acidity add to the wine's elegant and lean character. Easy-drinking without lacking complexity. It is ready to drink, but could be stored away for a couple of years.

BLANKBottle makes a range of wines changing from year to year depending on what critically-acclaimed winemaker Pieter H. Walser finds on his explorations through SA vineyards. Walser's operation is unusual because he owns no vineyards and rarely makes the same wine twice. He only works with small batches, buying grapes from around 60 vineyards all over the Western Cape. His policy is to say nothing about the grapes or the blend and he takes a casual approach to more than just the label, saying that the plan behind his winemaking is simply not to think too much about it.
