Black Chalk, Inversion Brut 2020

This Blanc de Noir style wine is a symphony of elegance and power, showcasing a blend of 97% stainless steel-aged wine and 3% aged in 5-year-old Burgundian barrels. We use some of our favourite Pinot Noir clones to craft Inversion —777, 386, 521, 817— all rooted in Upper Levels soil which contributes to its complexity and depth. Notably, the Pinot Noir 777 clone dominates the blend, constituting 67% and lending its robust, powerful character to the wine. To elevate its aromatic power, we've employed specialist Burgundy yeast Spark, chosen for its remarkable finesse. With no Malolactic fermentation and no fining.

Black Chalk is a labour of love from award-winning winemaker Jacob Leadley and family, with the eagerly-awaited inaugural 2015 vintage wines released in April 2018. Truly exceptional fruit is sourced entirely from vineyards in Hampshire, a quintessentially English landscape Jacob knows well, having been making world-class sparkling wines at Hattingley Valley since 2011. ?The traditional triptych of grapes come together in two debut wines of winsome brio and charm notably and intriguingly for us a role more prominent for Pinot Meunier, too often the bridesmaid of sparkling wine. From the chalklands of Hampshire, they're two hugely exciting and important leaps forward for an English wine scene already brimming with energy.

We also offer the option to collect from any of our shops at no extra cost. All Mainland UK orders should be delivered within 1-3 working days.
