70% of the blend is the last of the 2018 Pinot Meunier, pressed whole-bunch to tank for 18 months, later racked to an old barrel for another 18 months. The other 30% is a roughly even split of Solaris and Siegerrebe from 2021, crushed gently and macerated on the skins for 21 days. The two are blended into tank, and bottled them with a little fresh Pinot Meunier juice for the spark at the end.
Black Mountain is the tiny organic wine project of Emma and Mark Smith whose winery is located in a small shed down a narrow country lane in site of the Brecon Beacons. In total they have three hectares of vines planted with a combination of Pinots Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Solaris and Cab Cortis on shallow clay soils over loamy red sandstone.
