Angiolino Maule, Pico Bianco La Biancara 2020

This is pure Garganega. Grapes are sourced from Angiolino's highest plots around Gambellara in Vicenza. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation - where natural yeasts in the winery's environment and grape skins start the fermentation, as opposed to anything manufactured. Maturation takes place in large 15 hl oak barrels for 12 months. It is then bottled without filtration or added sulphites.

In the best vintages the wine is made in three different batches, reflecting Angiolino's three vineyard sites, namely Monte di Mezzo, Faldeo and Taibane. Despite only being a few hundred meters apart from each other, the three sites offer entirely different characteristics when vinified, and Angiolino's aim is to highlight these differences when yields and vintage permit.

Angiolino Maule (La Biancara) is one of the founding figures of natural farming and wine-making in Italy. He has been setting an example in both practices since the late 1980’s and is now assisted by his two sons, Francesco and Alessandro. Their estate is located in the hills of Gambellara between Verona and Vicenza where they have 9 hectares of vines on south-facing volcanic soil slopes.
