Made from hand-harvested Mencia grapes from young vines, which are vinified in stainless steel and bottled unfined and unfiltered. This is a very pure and authentic expression of the variety, with focused tart fruit, a touch of smoke, and a very mineral-driven finish. Deliciously drinkable and great value as well.

We had already been working with superstar winemaker Raul Perez for a number of years when we began working with his family estate, Castro Ventosa. This is where he cut his winemaking teeth as a teenager, and where he is still the consultant winemaker today. Castro Ventosa was founded by the Perez family in 1752 and has never changed hands. Their wines are lovely examples of Mencia at its best, the result of careful and dedicated work in the vineyard and a mostly hands-off approach in the cellar. A great introduction to this often underrated variety.
