There is a lovely freshness with the is wine that starts immediately with a nose of fresh grass and crisp citrus.. The palate has ripe pear and a touch of dried apricot. There is weight here that is harmony with a the citrus elements and a distant note of sea shell saltiness.

Originally from Ireland, Edwin Doran spent his life building up a travel business and following one of his passions in life, rugby. Together with his other passion, wine, he made many useful contacts and announced to one of them, well known South African producer Andre Badenhorst that he wanted to buy a vineyard.

So, having sold the travel business and with Andre’s help he bought what was then Far Horizon’s Farm in the west of the Voor Paardeberg region in August 2010 at the age of 65.They were greeted with a very small harvest so set out to improve the vineyard, including changing the trellising system. Yields are kept down with the emphasis on quality and a new cellar has been built. The grapes from the farm are supplemented with some from other local growers to make the Horse Mountain range but the Family Vineyards range is just from their own fruit. In a very short period of time Edwin has succeeded in making some superb wines.
