Chateau Figeac, Saint- Emilion, 1er Grand Cru Classe 2009
- Red
- 75cl
- ABV 13.5%
Deep-coloured, almost opaque in the glass, the Chateau Figeac, Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe 2009 has a savoury entry with some stony minerality and a waft of smoke. Subsequently there are dark berries, blackcurrant leas, plum and a pinch of black pepper. The developed tannins are fine-grained but still provide good structure; the finish is long, focused and streamlined. Equal proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon provide elegance, plumpness and gravitas. This is an extraordinary Saint-Emilion and a fabulous Figeac!

The fermentation is carried out in wood while the malolactic conversion takes place in stainless steel. The wine is matured in 100 percent new oak barriques for a period of approximately 20 months, therefore the wines need at least 10 years of bottle ageing. The 2009 vintage is now ready to drink, but could be stored away for another decade during which it will further improve.
Figeac is classified as a 1er Grand Cru Classé (B) and one the most prominent estates in the Saint-Emilion appellation. Due to its generous use of Cabernet Sauvignon Chateau Figeac's wines tend to be a bit more structured than other wines from the same area.
