De-stemmed and fermentation in stainless steel with ageing in French oak (30% new) for 12 months, fined with egg whites, so not vegan. The chariots label is inspired by a statue at the nearby Lussac fort that protected the river gateway to Bordeaux and the south-west of France. Julien says it stopped the marauding English from invading!
A small family-owned Domaine producing a polished, almost new-world style without losing its integrity or authenticity. One of his plots is neighboured on 2 sides by Chateau Beychevelle vineyards, which has the right to use the AOC St-Julien despite them being over the border in Cussac-Fort-Medoc. This is an interesting quirk of history & the 1855 classification that means the grapes can make their way into Beychevelle’s grand vin or probably 2nd, or 3rd. Hence, a baby Beychevelle!
