2016 was a dry year but yields were high thanks to the terroirs great drought resistance. Harvest took place between the 22nd of September - 20th of October. The vines have an average age of 35 years. The 2016 vintage is made up of 70 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 % Merlot, 2 % Cabernet Franc and 1 % Carmenere aged in French oak barrels for 18 months of which 70% was new oak. One of the greatest, if not the greatest Brane and one future vintages will be measured against.
Belonging to the Lurton family since 1920, Brane Cantenac is a 2eme cru classe, located in the appellation of Margaux. Their 90 hectares of vineyard area are planted on deep gravelly soils giving the wines tremendous aromatic qualities. Henri Lurton took over from his father in 1992, continuing the tradition of making the wine in the vineyard and vinifying the wine carefully plot by plot.
