A much more serious proposition than the regular Chianti. It is made out of the best grapes from low-yielding, stony vineyards planted in the 1970s; the fruit is dark and dense, the tannins fine and chocolatey. It has balance and energy, and a little new wood adds to the complex spice notes on the very long finish.

Chianti Classico Riserva is produced only in the best vintages and comes from grapes of old Sangiovese plants from the Casavecchia vineyards with southern exposure and Sicellino with north-east exposure, the latter planted in the 1970s.
They are vineyards rich in stone with particularly low yields, where the production is of incredible quality.
Maceration on the skins for 25 days, spontaneous fermentation in cement. Aged in 500 liter oak barrels for two years.
The agronomist Gabriele Buondonno, Neapolitan by birth, arrived in the Chianti Classico in 1988, when together with his wife Valeria, who also graduated in agriculture, he purchased the Casavecchia alla Piazza farm in Castellina in Chianti.
Today, as then, the approach has always been organic in the field, in an era of the 90s where technology reigned supreme in Chianti. Even on the cellar side, Gabriele has always opted for an ancient method, simple but applied with great precision and meticulousness.
A peasant producer, who spends a lot of time in the vineyard observing the vines and working the land, limiting interventions to the essentials, slowly and precisely.
