Leaning Post, Senchuk Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

The 2019 vintage was a very cool season which gave us the opportunity to hang our Chardonnay until it was ready to be picked on September 30^th 2019.  We hand harvest the chardonnay and keep the clones (548 and 96) separate from pressing throughout the barrel aging process.  We gently press the fruit and allow the juice to settle for a few days before transferring to barrel for fermentation.  This wine underwent a spontaneous primary and malolactic fermentation.  We allowed the wine to remain in barrel once fermentation was complete for 17 months.  This wine was bottled for your enjoyment on August 11, 2021.

A leaning post is what you find at the beginning of a row of grapes, anchoring the wires that are the frame-work for growing grapevines. It is the beginning of an obsession to translate a time and place into liquid. Leaning Post wines take you to that beginning by finding small, unique plots of land in Niagara and putting them in bottle.
