du Grappin Bagnum Rouge Gamay, 1.5ltr

About this wine

From 50 year-old Gamay vines in our Beaujolais-Villages parcel on the slopes of Lancié, considered by most to be the best commune in the Beaujolais-Villages appellation, being bordered on three sides by Morgon, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. Planted in alluvial pink granitic sand on a South East facing slope abutting Fleurie, and worked according to sustainable principles.

Harvested by hand and placed in concrete vats as whole clusters with around 5% foot crushed to release some juice. Kept under CO2 cover to protect against oxidation, since no SO2 was used on the grapes, as well to encourage intra berry carbonic fermentation. Pressed after 9 days on skins the wine finished it’s alcoholic fermentation by natural yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and old Pinot Noir barrels and left on lies for 5 months unsulphured. The wine is unfined and unfiltered and only lightly sulphured just before packaging.

Our Du Grappin wines are vins de soif, made to be delicious, fun and refreshing. We make them by hand in our ancient cuverie in the walls of Beaune from grapes we source from passionate growers. The result are wines with vivacity and personality. By packaging these wines in Bag-in Box, KeyKeg and Bagnum, our carbon foot-print is greatly reduced; by up to 80% compared to glass. The packaging keeps our wine fresh for weeks, as well as saving you money by reduced wastage, lower recycling charges, and more efficient use of scarce storage space.
